It happened again. I attract emasculated men like Tiger attracts trailer-park trash. I can't figure it out. I met him in the book-store and I had on a feminine outfit; red V-neck sweater, curvy jeans, casual heels. We started talking and 2 hours later we walked out exchanging information and looking forward to a real date . He emails me, "friday looks good. what did you have in mind?" To which I replied, "Friday.... I like all kinds of food, I love music, local theatre, bowling, comedy, and basically I'll try anything twice." (gave him lots of options, right?) But he replies, (cut and paste) "I cant help but think we are looking for different things. One thing that I have learned is that I do not want, nor do I prosper in, a relationship that expects the man in a "stereotypical male" position/role --- where he makes the decisions and plans, he is in charge, he initiate contact and intimacy, he take financial responsibility for the relationship. All this while the woman simply enjoys his effort and energy. I do not own a white horse or suit of shinny armor...it looks to me this is the way it would go. I am just a simple guy looking for a loving relationship. I want a relationship where both the man and woman can and do make the decisions and plans, be in charge at time, initiate contact and intimacy, take the risk, and take financial responsibility for the relationship. The is very far from the traditional relationship that you may want." I replied with a brief, "good call, we're not a match". But I have to tell you, I am grieved. Seriously - this kind of response - from my desire to have him plan the first date? I don't want a man on a white horse but I do want a man - and I don't want his panties to show when he rides. Lately I've been hearing a lot about men connecting frequently - but not via the old fashioned way of a phone call. Today men are more interested in IMing or text messages. What's that about? Well, let's consider what's going on here... What do the email, IM and texting as communication methods have in common? 1. Quick way to be in touch 2. Can be a distraction from other work or activity 3. Fun time waster if stuck somewhere and bored 4. Can be done while doing other things 5. Has the naughty or sneaky factor - everyone thinks he's working 6. Not much emotion conveyed (possibly) 7. No one can hear them since its not vocal 8. Weve discussed the importance of self love before. The necessity to know ones own body well in order to communicate to your lover what feels good and what feels better. But thats only one benefit. When youre unable to be with your lover there is certain sweetness in focusing all of your fantasy on your lover and bringing that energy to your bed even when theyre miles away. I recently added a movie to my list of all time favorites and this movie now tops my list of all-time favorite love scenes. Atonement, is the story of realized love, betrayal, and bitter-sweet love lost. When the lovers discovered their commitment to one another they consummated that love in the library. So sweet, so sincere, so intense well done. I couldnt quit thinking about the story and found myself immersed in the book by the same title, Atonement, by Ian McEwen. He writes of the dedicated lovers bridging the gap between the miles of separation and besting prison sensors by recalling this library moment in code through the written word. An excerpt from Atonement So they wrote about literature and used characters as codes. At Cambridge, they had passed each other by in the street. All those books, those happy or tragic couples they had never met to discuss! Tristan and Isolde, the Duke Orsino and Olivia (and Malvolio too), Trolius and Criseyde, Mr. Knightley and Emma, Venus and Adonis. Turner and Tallis. Once, in despair, he referred to Promtheus, chained to a rock, his liver devoured daily by a vulture. Sometimes she was patient Griselde. Mention of a quiet corner in a library was code for sexual ecstasy. They charted the daily round too, in boring, loving, detail. He described the prison routine in every aspect, but he never told her of its stupidity. That was plain enough. He never told her that he feared he might go under. That too was clear. She never wrote that she loved him, though she would have if she thought it would get through. But he knew it. She told him she had cut herself off from her family. She would never speak to her parents, brother or sister again. He followed closely her steps along the way towards her nurses qualification. When she wrote, I went to the library today to get the anatomy book I told you about. If you're planning a date night dinner and need a quick fix to make things look really great - keep reading. Roll your meat. It's as simple as that. When you stuff a piece of meat with good stuff and roll it up before you cook it you can slice it onto the plate in pin-wheels and it looks gorgeous! Tonight I bought a $2 package of top-round. Brought it home and pounded it out thin with a jelly jar. Then I painted it with Olive Oil, Seasonings, Italian Shredded Cheese, Chopped Mushrooms, and Basil Leaves. Rolled it up - cooked it in spaghetti sauce and BAM! Beautiful food. You can do the same with Chicken and any thing you want to stuff in the middle that will cook while the meat is cooking. Keep it hot in the kitchen!

One of the strange but fun things we do at Romance-Recipe is called, "stream of conciousness" writing. The challenge came after several beers at Little Bear July 4th: "write out what going to see Something Underground means to you...". We try to keep these excercises to 100 words or less but I think that after being overserved, an exception is made and a beer handicap kicks in. +++ What going to see SUG means to me Savvy Jones It means that Im about to be up close and personal to raw energy portrayed in leg splays and military marches. As the songs tempo increases so does the physical exhibition of passion. Its sinewy Its strong Its dedicated and professional. Its overcoming the affects of obligatory tequila and Jager shots to embrace and bond with the crowd, whip them into an intimate frenzy one big orgy, and hold them until the last mega-chord with the Larson Brothers faces exposing pleasure so intense it feels as if we; mass of voyeurs, are witnessing an intimate moment. We are all blessed to be there together, and dance every note to the worlds longest song montage make the sweat drip out of every pore and feel hurt when its over so suddenly.
